Meet Orit Kramer

March Volunteer
of the Month

Orit Kramer is owner and Creative Director of InHouse Graphic Design, a full service design studio providing comprehensive design services. InHouse manages all aspects of creative projects--from concept development to the finished product. Orit has 10 years of experience in graphic design, including identity/logo development/branding, collateral materials, page layout, and web design.

“After relocating to the Portland area, I attended an AMA luncheon,” Orit said. “I found the event to be very educational and informative. Additionally, the networking opportunities have helped me grow my business. The level of commitment and professionalism of AMA board and members impressed me so much that I decided to volunteer with the Community Outreach Program. A little later I took the opportunity to work on marketing/design materials for the MAX awards. The MAX Committee was an energizing experience. It was so rewarding to see it all culminate on awards night.”

Orit is looking forward to being more involved with the AMA Oregon next year. She has already signed on to work with the Communications Committee in 2008-09.

Thank you Orit!

PSU Student Chapter

Super Bowl Ad Party

February 12, 2008, Henry's 12th Street Tavern

What a great event we had on Tuesday February 12th !  There was food, billiards, great commercials, and an excellent presentation from Jeremy Darlow, assistant brand manager for Widmer Brothers Brewing. We learned about how Widmer Brothers Brewing started their successful brewery, and how they continue today as the poster boy (man) of great micro-brews in the state of Oregon.
When we started this event, it was supposed to be a Super Bowl ad-design competition, but we were unable to have a large number of applicants.  So, it was more of a celebration of the best ads of the year. We attracted approximately 25 people to this event.  Hopefully next year's event will be even bigger.
Big thanks go out to Kevin Hohnbaum and Karen Guillen-Chapman,  marketing professionals who came to support our event. The support of the professional chapter is always appreciated because it makes our events so much more beneficial to our collegiate members.
Henry’s 12th Street Tavern was a great venue to hold this event.  They provided billiards tables, good drinks, good food, and a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy the evening. We hope that they are willing to support our chapter in similar ways in the future.
Thank you all for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at the next AMA-PSU event!

-Matt Schaeffer
 Executive VP AMA-PS

MAX Awards Ceremony
February 21, 2008 Governor Hotel

Thirty walked the red carpet; seven left with trophies
AMA Oregon honors this year’s best at the third annual MAX Awards

February is not about Valentine’s Day.  It’s not about Super Tuesday.  It’s not even about the Oscars.  For Oregon and Southwest Washington marketing professionals in the know, February is only about one thing: the AMA MAX Awards.  And this year, they did not disappoint.

Portland advertising agency Leopold Ketel + Partners swept the night with four trophies and celebrated with a champagne toast, courtesy of the AMA.  eROI, Ant Hill Marketing and Henry V were also honored at the event co-hosted by Eric Gregg, chapter president and managing partner of iLoyalty and Cris Schulz, advertising director of Daily Journal of Commerce (and the wizard who brought us this year’s awards).

More than 200 professionals walked this year’s red carpet at the Governor Hotel in downtown Portland to celebrate, network and rub elbows with the nominees.  Comedian Aaron Ross offered a humorous take on successful product development and marketing with 50 Cent’s Formula 50 Vitamin Water and his very own “gangsta yo-yo” featuring Dr. Dre’s spinning face.

Abby Lambert, creative director for Apex Creative Design and AMA Communications Chairwoman, received a special award of distinction for her commitment and volunteerism to Oregon AMA.

And the winners were…
Best Integrated Marketing Campaign for B2B – Henry V
Best Integrated Marketing Campaign for B2C – Leopold Ketel + Partners
Best Integrated Marketing Campaign for Non-Profits – Leopold Ketel + Partners
Best Web Campaign – eROI
Best ROI Campaign – Leopold Ketel + Partners
Best Printed Collateral – Ant Hill Marketing
Best Public Relations Campaign – Leopold Ketel + Partners

Thanks to this year’s judges:

  • Michele Daterman, vice president of marketing, Portland Trail Blazers;
  • Don Dickinson, director of advertising management, Portland State University’s School of Business;
  • Tom Eiland, partner, Conkling Fiskum & McCormick;
  • Brooks Gilley, co-founder and managing director, 52 Limited;
  • Debra J. Ringold, dean and professor of marketing, Willamette University’s Atkinson Graduate School of Management;
  • Jamie Sexton, executive director, Portland Ad Federation;
  • Cindy Trames, vice president influencer channel, NAU.

Susan Federici
AMA Newsletter Editor

February was a remarkable month for AMA Oregon.  As the new, and nascent, flowers in my garden demonstrate so colorfully, March is the advent of Spring optimism and fresh starts.

Editor's Note

In last month's Editor's Note, I harangued that red was the color for February and that red was the color for passion.  Was February passioned enough or what?!  On February 5th, there was a whopper networking event.  The February 12th  Luncheon was a sell out.  Also, on February 12th , our student chapter at PSU held a Super Bowl Ad Party that attracted 25 people.  And certainly the most spectacular of all AMA events, the MAX Awards, astounded everyone on Thursday, February 21st.

This month's Newsletter recaps many of February's hottest happenings.  Some quiet, but meaningful, events occurred during February, too.  In particular, Cyndi Johnson, February's Volunteer of the Month, forged further ahead on her work with Girls, Inc.  This month you will can read more about the mission and activities of this nonprofit as it prepares for it's Summit.  This month's issue also recognizes Orit Kramer, another quiet contributor.  Orit is March's Volunteer of the Month.  Orit, a graphic designer with her own company, InHouse, really delivered with the designs for the MAX Awards competition, advertisements and event.

So, February was a remarkable month for AMA Oregon.  As the new, and nascent, flowers in my garden demonstrate so colorfully, March is the advent of Spring optimism and fresh starts.
Also, Mr. Robert Moreau, of Rubicon Marketing, contributed another one of his insightful articles this month.  In this Issue of the Newsletter, Mr. Moreau helps us through the issues involved in getting the right marketing materials to the customer at times when they are most receptive.

Enjoy!

Sponsor Spotlight

Sponsor Since 2004

Our March Sponsor Spotlight is shining on Frazier & Co. LLC of Lake Oswego.  Nine years ago, Kim Frazier founded the business and remains as its head.  To say that Frazier & Co.'s business is corporate marketing products and services gives a pale understanding of what the company actually offers as services to other businesses.  A better description of Frazier & Co.'s line of work is probably to say that they heighten their clients' brand marketing programs with a strong consultative approach backed by creative use of products, merchandise, unique packaging and delivery.

4-Keys to Maximizing the Use & Effectiveness
of Your Content
By Robert J. Moreau, EVP Sales & Marketing
Rubicon Marketing Group

If you are like most marketers you either have too much content or not enough.  Larger firms struggle with their vast library of content with very little idea of what works or what doesn’t, what’s new vs. old or what should be updated vs. scrapped all together.  Many smaller companies have a hard time finding the time or the resources to consistently develop compelling content. In many cases they neglect key pieces of necessary material that can have a substantial effect on the bottom line.  In today’s information age, it’s never been so important to make sure that you not only develop quality content but that you also maximize the use of it once it is created.  Regardless of your specific challenge, here are four tips in getting the most out of your content.

April Luncheon
InnoTech Marketing Program - Special AMA Event Invitation10 Truths of Marketing In A Web2.0 World
Thursday, April 17, Oregon Convention Center
11:30am – 12:00pm - Networking
12:00pm – 1:30pm - Presentation

One of the effects of the shift from Web1.0 (webpages) to Web2.0 (people) is that individuals are using the Internet in completely new ways. The old methods for marketing to consumers online or offline don't work anymore because consumers are smarter about filtering them out using technology like RSS and sites like Digg, Flickr and YouTube.  Great brands need personality to stand out.

In this session, Rohit Bhargava, Senior Vice President, Digital Strategy at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, Author of Personality Not Included, a guide for brands to connect more authentically with their customers, and the Influential Marketing Blog, will teach you how to decode the acronyms of social media and learn the new rules for marketing in a Web2.O world. Whether you have a small business struggling to be seen, or you are part of a large enterprise trying to create its own online social network or wiki - this session will teach you the new secrets for how to make your marketing a more powerful force.

AMA-Oregon Chapter members are asked to use the link below to access the eMarketing Summit Lunch-only registration.

The lunch-only registration option is for AMA members ($32.00 pp) and this registration link is only accessible through the AMA site (not on the InnoTech site).

Cost is $149 for the entire two day InnoTech summit, including lunch, featured breakfast presentation on April 17, exhibiting and receptions.
