At present, Woloshin Communications is proud to number Legend Homes, Avamere Living, Signature Hospice and MedicareCRM among its clients. Indeed, Woloshin Communications' work for Legend Homes won the 2007 Spotlight Award, the highest achievement possible, from the Public Relations Society of America, for outstanding work in Community and Media Relations. What follows is a description of that project, which was located in Corvallis.

Project
In May 2007, Legend Homes was contacted for ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Local civic and social leaders had recommended Legend Homes, because of its past community involvement, to be the builder of choice for an episode to be shot in Corvallis, Oregon July 7 – 15, 2007. Legend Homes faced several problems if they accepted the project:
Community Relations Challenges
- Did the company have enough positive community presence to recruit over 300 skilled volunteers?
- Was there a “reservoir” of past positive community response to generate $350,000 in-kind material donations?
- Could Legend Homes build an Earth Advantage® certified home in 106 hours?
Reputation Challenges
- Would this effort boost community support for a response sustained long enough to ensure that the targeted audiences truly understood that Legend Homes was the community-focused environmentally sensitive corporate citizen it claimed to be?
Legend Homes accepted ABC's project and succeed far beyond their dreams.
Results
- More than 600 on-site random surveys were distributed on the day with the highest spectator attendance. Of those surveyed, 92% gave Legend Homes the highest possible rating for corporate citizenship, and 96% rated Legend Homes as a valued corporate citizen.
- Legend Homes received high marks for volunteer recruitment, 94% ranked our efforts as excellent.
- Media impressions on web, print, radio and television ranked in the millions. Media equivalency and publicity value in Oregon from 7/7 to 7/15, from a third-party analysis, was more than $330,000. National figures are not yet available; however, in the overall analysis of all earned media, Legend Homes was specifically featured, named and quoted in the more than 64% of all coverage. Our name, our brand and our community relations now enjoy a sustainable foundation.
